Roatan, Honduras—the largest of eight islands collectively known as the Bay Islands. It’s located about 40 miles off the north coast of Honduras. Though the largest of the Bay Islands, Roatan is only 40 miles long and less than 4 miles wide at its widest point.
Roatan is also home to spectacular beaches, warm turquoise waters and lush unspoiled terrain. Roatan has a hilly terrain with its highest point reaching 900 ft. above sea level. The temperature varies between 80 and 85 degrees which is the same for its warm caribbean waters.
The bay islands are surrounded by the worlds second largest barrier reef and attract many visitors each year for some of the world's best diving. These waters are home to a diverse aquatic like which makes Roatan a scuba and snorkeling paradise.
Roatan is easy to travel to as it is within close proximity to the United States. Direct flights are offered from Houston, Atlanta, and Miami. Another great feature this paradise has to offer is that it is not in the main path of hurricanes.
Roatan makes an ideal vacation escape—or investment opportunity—for a great many reasons. One of the most important, though, is political stability. Honduras is a democracy headed by a popularly elected—and popular—president, Mel Zelaya. President Zelaya was elected in November of 2005 and has a commitment to the prosperity of Roatan. He just recently announced that Roatan will become a duty free port.
Zelaya and his cabinet also understand that foreign investment is the lifeblood of his country. To encourage that investment, they’ve offered incentives such as 10-year income and property tax holidays on tourism developments
